Pilates Method Alliance (PMA)
Pilates Method Alliance Corporate Sponsor
Pilates Reformers Plus is a Proud Corporate Sponsor of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA)
The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is the not-for-profit professional association dedicated to the Pilates field.
Since its inception in 2001, Pilates teachers from around the world have worked together to create a unified community, to share knowledge and information, and most importantly, to establish the practice of teaching Pilates as a profession.
The Alliance is comprised of paying members, the vast majority of whom are career Pilates teachers, studio owners, Pilates school owners and faculty, or all of the above. The volunteer Board of Directors that govern the PMA come from that same demographic and are democratically elected by the members. The Alliance is managed and administered by a salaried staff based in Miami, Florida.
The PMA produces live events such as our Annual Meeting and Pilates Educators Summit. We coordinate a global Pilates-awareness event called Pilates Day and support other profile-raising initiatives such as Heroes in Motion®, Pilates 4 Youth, and Pilates is Health.
The PMA also support a Research Committee as an integral part of the evolution and practice of the Pilates method, knowing that sound research and evidence-based practice is necessary to ensure that Pilates is effective, efficient, and safe.
Significantly, in 2017 the PMA launched its Pilates School Approval Program (PSAP) which establishes Standards for Pilates schools. Benefiting both prospective students and schools alike, this program provides assurance to all parties that the school has met the 10 Educational Standards established by the PMA.
The National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP) is an autonomous certification program within the PMA. It was developed by the PMA in 2005, and it offers the only third-party certification in the Pilates field. Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) in 2012, the NPCP joins a group of more than 250 programs from 100 organizations that have received and maintained NCCA accreditation. By establishing this credential, the PMA put into place an essential component required for any established profession.
We urge you to join us and support our efforts to elevate the status of Pilates teachers and build this new profession.
